Whether your a college student or a business professional and so on.There comes a point where we see the need for a laptop in order to make our day to day activities run smoother.

But it’s also a common thing for us to either neglect or we just aren’t sure of what type of laptop we need and in the end we just figure out we splashed out a lot of cash for something that didn’t suite our needs ,wasn’t worth it or it came with all sort of problems that could cause you tons of headaches.

So i took the liberty of sparing you the headache and helping you with some tips that will prove useful when your out shopping for a laptop :

  1. What are you going to use it for ? I honestly can’t stress this point enough, knowing your intentions with a laptop can help save you from the pain of spending too much or spending too little for something that wasn’t worth it.

i) If your a college student for instance and most of your activities revolve around watching movies, typing out your notes, reading, browsing etc a normal laptop in the price range of 150 dollars to 220 dollars will do.

ii)If you like gaming ,you do a lot of graphics designing ,video editing and film making ,well you would definitely have to dig deeper in your pockets and this is due to the amount of requirements needed for a laptop to be able to run the applications of your desire and a minimum price 350 dollars will work out fine.

2. Design and form factor .Different laptops come in different designs and sizes which try to either meet the portability end of the spectrum or the power end and some try to strike a balance between the two .

i)Screen size .Most laptops start from 10 inches to 17 inches according to the average market and while the smaller ones try to maximize portability they tend be less powerful and the opposite is true in this case.

  • The most common laptops these days come with a 13–14 inch display size and they have all the common ports you’d expect to use example 2 -3 USB ports ,HDMI port and an earphone jack and if you get lucky a CD-ROM drive.
  • The slim laptops are extremely lightweight and portable but will support fewer ports .
  • The larger one that go up to 17 inches tend to be less portable but more powerful and have more ports.

3.Tech Specifications . This is one of the parts that confuse most people and is where you either get the best bet for your money or the worst ,here are some guidelines to help you make a sound choice :

  • CPU -Simply put this is what you call the brain of a computer and you will come across Intel core i2,Intel core i3,Intel core i5 and the Intel core i7 while in some cases you will also come across AMD Ryzen 3,AMD Ryzen 5,AMD Ryzen 7 and not to get too technical but higher is better in terms of how powerful it is but more expensive in both cases.
  • RAM -This is how fast your laptop can run multiple programs at once and the best bet you can get for your laptop is one with 4 GB of RAM which are getting more common in the market by the day.
  • Battery life -How long can your laptop last on battery ? This is a very important consideration especially if your buying a used one ,normally the average time for a laptop after a single charge is not definite and it can vary depending on several factors example the battery life, applications your currently running but in normal mode it can last from 1.5 hours to 6 hours with some going even further than that.

All in all there a lot of other things you can take in to consider when buying a laptop but i hope the above tips will help shed more light and help you make a sound choice and get a good return on your money.
